It's the FIRST Saturday of 2012! What are your plans?

According to the weather man, Saturday shouldn't be too bad - a bit cloudy and a small chance of rain...possibly in the low 60s.

Here's a few ways to enjoy your day:

  • Start the first Saturday of the year with Time Well Spent Coffee & Friends! They're open at 7:AM...stop in and have a Hot Caramel Apple Cider or a Cappuccino (a personal favorite!) - GREAT way to start your day.

  • You can head out to the brand new 78 Skate and enjoy "All Day Prices" from 11 am - Midnight!

Homemade Christmas Ornaments- a great project for the kids!

Kim's adorable Christmas stockings!
What a fun way to keep the kiddos occupied during Christmas break...and a great way for them to make a neat Christmas gift!

Ingredients and photos courtesy of Kimberly Howard (Monroe, GA)

All you need is flour, salt, and water!
We added 1/2 tablespoon of salt to every tablespoon of flour then added water little by little until it was about the consistency of play-doh.

Shape as desired then place a hole to thread the ribbon through. (Suggestion: make the shapes no more than about 1/4" thick so they're not too heavy).  Place on a cookie sheet lined with either aluminum foil or wax paper and bake at 250 until dry. Flip about every 5-6 minutes. Once cooled, paint and decorate as desired then thread with ribbon to hang on your Christmas tree (or give as a gift!!).

Kim gives some great examples in her photos:

CUTE Snowcouple!
The ornaments can be painted and sealed once cooled.
Thanks, Kim, for the great idea!!

If you would like to contribute non-perishable home-baked goodies to send to our hard-working military please have them ready by November 18th. (of course, other items are gladly accepted as well! Go here to check out the Soldiers' wish list)

Soldier's Connection - Taking care of our Military

As Americans, we are always looking to give back to the needy here at home and internationally. Soldier's Connection based in Loganville is always looking for ways to help our Military. While I was at Saturday evening's Car Show in Grayson, I had the honor of meeting Jean Kelley who is a big part of this great organization.

Jean prepares donated items for our troops for shipping to Iraq and Afghanistan every 3 weeks. She and her team assemble approximately 60 packages altogether. The funds for the packages come from a variety of means such as the Car Show proceeds and booths set up at festivals or local stores. Items for the packages are donated from various sources including individual citizens, Churches and local businesses and organizations.

How can you help?

You can let our troops know we haven't forgotten their hard work and sacrifices by making a tax-deductible donation in monetary form or by providing items for the packages such as baby wipes, hand sanitizer, chewing gum and sunblock. Take a look at the Soldier's Needs List for more information.

Your donations can be delivered to:

American Legion Post 233
4635 Atlanta Hwy
Loganville, GA 30052

Items are accepted Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays 5:PM - 9:PM and Sundays 12:PM - 4:PM.

Be sure to thank Jean and her team for all they do when you stop by!

Come spend some time at Time Well Spent Coffee n Friends!

What a perfect way to start my 3-day weekend. The smell of freshly brewed coffee in the morning. And you know it's good before you even drink it when it smells as good as it does at Time Well Spent Coffee n Friends!

Upon walking thru the front door of TWSCnF I knew I was in for a great experience. Friendly staff to welcome me and ask if this was my first visit, comfortable seating, relaxing atmosphere...this is everything that owner Paula Judge hoped it would be.

I had the pleasure of meeting Paula this morning and I am thrilled that she has accomplished her goal of opening the perfect "place to just chill out" and enjoy "relaxation without the stuffy". She has definitely realized her dream and served it up with incredible food and superb coffee.

Speaking of coffee, Paula has brought in the talents of Rob Tuttle, World Barista Championship Judge, to guide their Baristas in the art of brewing coffee with 'Chemex', 'Clever' and the use of micro brewed coffee. Rob, the co-founder of Brew Casa in Cumming, GA, has a real passion for coffee. Give Rob a follow on twitter or check out his blog and you'll see what I mean!

A little more about TWSCnF: Game room opens at 2pm, discounted rates between 2 + 5pm. Come shoot pool or play shuffleboard! Board games and toys are on hand to keep the little ones (and big ones) occupied. There is a Book Store inside to the right as you walk in with a collection of clean content books for sale. 104.7 The Fish is piped in thru the speakers for family friendly listening. Plenty of room to sit and relax with the entire family or to hold a meeting.

Paula is looking forward to hosting events such as acoustic evenings and book signings by local authors. Be sure to check her website and follow her on twitter for updates. She's also looking forward to meeting YOU so make sure you stop in, say hi and have a cup of coffee!

My breakfast: a Bacon, Egg and Cheese Croissant and a wonderful cup of Cappuccino. The sandwich was too good for words and the coffee tasted just as perfect as it smelled when I walked in the door.

Paula also brought me a Caramel Glacier and a freshly made Chocolate Biscotti... both were just incredible. (I ate the biscotti before I could take a picture of it, sorry I didn't share!!)
