Remember those who served this Veterans' Day

Tomorrow, November 11, 2011 (yes, that's 11/11/11!) is Veterans' Day.

The Veterans' Department of Affairs gives a history of Veterans' Day - a day initially celebrated with public meetings, parades and a pause of business as usual at 11:AM.

  • More on the History of Veterans' Day:

"In November 1919, President Wilson proclaimed November 11 as the first commemoration of Armistice Day with the following words: "To us in America, the reflections of Armistice Day will be filled with solemn pride in the heroism of those who died in the country’s service and with gratitude for the victory, both because of the thing from which it has freed us and because of the opportunity it has given America to show her sympathy with peace and justice in the councils of the nations…""

Tomorrow, a host of events commemorating Veterans' Day will occur throughout Walton County including a ceremony at Loganville City Hall at 11:AM which the American Legion Riders Post 233 will participate in.

The Walton Tribune has posted a list of events scheduled for tomorrow including a 9:AM ceremony in the Social Circle Elementary School gym and a visit to The Mews in Social Circle at 10:AM from American Legion Post 64.

A sincere THANK YOU to our men and women in uniform who have fought for our country + who continue to fight for our freedom.
